BLITZ MAGAZINE, VOLUME 21 - NO. 7
COMPLEX MASTER, RICHARD NORTON
Richard Norton might be best known for his many action movie roles, but he's also a consummate martial artist.
Norton is ranked 5th Dan in Goju karate and Chuck Norris' Chun Kuk Do, and Black-belt in BJJ under Jean Jacques Machado.
Having recently returned to Australia from his second home in Los Angeles, Norton has been increasingly sought after as a seminar presenter.
The topic most in demand has been a series of intricate drills known as 'Complexes', taught to him almost 30 years ago by Master Tadashi Yamashita. In part one of this two-part interview, we talk to Norton about the drills and why they're the best training tool he's acquired in 45 years of training.
ENTER, PASS, CONTROL - BOB JONES
Master Bob Jones is recognised as Australia's most successful pioneer of freestyle martial arts.
His intense passion for the arts has seen him build one of Australia's biggest martial arts organisations, alongside a long-running security business, and become an instructor of multiple systems. And, most recently, training with Matadors in Spain and experiencing the 'passing' a bull in Portugal.
In the final instalment of this interview, Jones talks about the aikido training that allowed him to try the matador's craft, how he has implemented it into his Bob Jones Martial Arts syllabuses, and what happened when a world-ranked boxer faces off against an old aikido master.
